Donna Ghanney interviews Morah Onleilove Chika Alston, M.Div., MSW. Topic: Economic Systems                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     About Our Guest Morah Onleilove Chika Alston, M.Div., MSW is a member of the Micah Table, Lead Organizer for BronxConnect and Founder of Prophetic Whirlwind: Uncovering the Black Biblical Destiny a teaching ministry inspired by the Marcus Garvey speech “Look For Me in the Whirlwind”. She was born and raised in East New York, Brooklyn and currently lives in Harlem. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in Human Development with a minor in African-American studies from Penn State University, she completed a year of service with AmeriCorps Public Allies New York. In 2011, she received her Master of Divinity and Master of Social Work degrees from Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University School of Social Work, respectively. Having experienced poverty and homelessness, she has developed a compassion for people fueled by her passion for justice, and knows that the gospel is truly “good news to the poor.” In 2016 Onleilove testified before the United Nations Working Group for People of African Descent Testimony on Mass Incarceration’s Impact on Black Women & Girls. In April 2019 her first full length book Prophetic Whirlwind: Uncovering the Black Biblical Destiny was published chronicling African and African-American Hebrew communities and what this means for justice in our communities. She is one of the few African-American women to visit and minister among West-African Jewish communities and this is covered in her book. Her travels and work have taken her to Scotland, The Bahamas, Morocco, The US Virgin Island, Puerto Rico, England, Switzerland, Israel, Ghana, and Togo. Onleilove serves in  many Pan-African faith based organizations such as The God Box Foundation, Pan African Women of Faith (an initiative of Bread for the World and WCC in partnership with the African Union), Mothers of the Nations, The Global African Business Association as the Faith Based Coordinator and the United Nations CSW Caucus for Women and Girl Descendants of The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Onleilove has five siblings and a large extended family. In 2018 she co-founded #OperationJoseph​ a philanthropic organization where African-Americans send support to African and Caribbean Hebrew communities. She worships at Beth-El The House of Yahweh a 66 year old historically a Black Messianic Hebrew community where she serves as a Minister of Evangelism.
